Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, which leaves PC players with two questions: when will it come to PC, and if it does, what PC will you need to run it? Rockstar hasn’t answered either yet, because it hasn’t announced a PC version. But there is a lot we can work out: what a credible report says about the PC release window, how the game runs on PS5, and what Rockstar asked of PC players for its last two games.
This guide separates what’s official from what’s reported and what’s our own estimate. We’ll update it as soon as Rockstar publishes real requirements.
Short answer (October 28, 2026): there are no official GTA 6 PC system requirements. The game is confirmed only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A GamesBeat report says the PC version is planned for the first quarter of 2027, but Rockstar hasn’t confirmed it. Our estimate: plan for a 6- to 8-core CPU, 16 GB of RAM as a minimum (32 GB recommended), an RTX 2060 or RX 6600-class GPU at the bottom end, and at least 210 GB of free SSD space.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Almost certainly, but not at launch. Here’s where things stand:
- Official: Rockstar’s GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date of November 19, 2026. PC isn’t mentioned anywhere.
- Official, but general: in a May 2026 Bloomberg interview, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said PC can account for 45–50% of sales for some major titles, while noting that Rockstar has stuck with launching on consoles first. He didn’t give a GTA 6 PC date, but it’s hard to imagine Take-Two leaving that much revenue on the table.
- Reported, not confirmed: on October 13, 2026, GamesBeat reported that Rockstar plans to release GTA 6 on PC within the first three months of 2027, citing four anonymous industry sources. Rockstar didn’t respond to a request for comment.
If the report is right, PC players would wait three to five months. That would be Rockstar’s fastest port yet: GTA V reached PC about 19 months after its 2013 console launch, and Red Dead Redemption 2 about a year after.
How GTA 6 runs on PS5
The console version is the best guide we have to how demanding the PC version will be. Digital Foundry’s analysis of the official trailers, all captured on PS5, points to three things:
- Around 1440p at 30 fps on a base PS5, upscaled to 4K. Digital Foundry doubts a 60 fps mode is realistic on current consoles.
- The CPU is the bottleneck. Simulating a dense Vice City full of traffic and pedestrians taxes the consoles’ 8-core processors. Digital Foundry suspects that reaching 60 fps on PC may take a high-end Ryzen X3D chip.
- Ray-traced lighting is part of the look, with ray-traced global illumination costing extra performance.
Storage is the other clue. A PlayStation Network database tracker spotted a 210 GB install size for the PS5 version. PC versions of Rockstar games are usually at least as big as on console, so plan for more.
For context, a PS5 is roughly comparable to a PC with an 8-core Zen 2 CPU (think Ryzen 7 3700X at lower clocks) and an RTX 2070 Super or RX 6700-class graphics card, sharing 16 GB of memory between CPU and GPU. Matching that at 30 fps is the floor; getting a smooth 60 fps on PC needs a lot more, especially on the CPU side.
Rockstar’s last two PC requirements
Rockstar’s own spec sheets show how it pitches its minimum and recommended tiers. These are official:
| Red Dead Redemption 2 (2019) | GTA V Enhanced (2025) | |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum CPU | Intel Core i5-2500K / AMD FX-6300 | Intel Core i7-4770 / AMD FX-9590 |
| Minimum GPU | GTX 770 2 GB / Radeon R9 280 3 GB | GTX 1630 / RX 6400 (4 GB) |
| Minimum RAM | 8 GB | 8 GB |
| Recommended CPU | Intel Core i7-4770K / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X | Intel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
| Recommended GPU | GTX 1060 6 GB / RX 480 4 GB | RTX 3060 / RX 6600 XT (8 GB) |
| Recommended RAM | 12 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 150 GB | 105 GB SSD |
The pattern: Rockstar’s minimum spec tends to sit a little below console level, and its recommended spec a little above. GTA 6 is a far more demanding game than either, built only for current-generation hardware, so expect both tiers to move up considerably.
Our estimate: GTA 6 PC system requirements
These are our predictions, not official requirements. They’re based on the PS5 version’s performance, the console hardware, and how Rockstar priced its previous spec sheets. Treat them as a planning guide.
| Minimum (1080p, low, 30 fps) | Recommended (1440p with upscaling, 60 fps) | High end (4K with upscaling, 60+ fps) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPU | Ryzen 5 3600 / Core i5-10400 | Ryzen 7 5800X3D / Core i5-13600K | Ryzen 7 9800X3D |
| GPU | RTX 2060 / RX 6600 | RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT | RTX 5080 / RX 9070 XT |
| VRAM | 6–8 GB | 12 GB | 16 GB |
| RAM | 16 GB | 32 GB | 32 GB |
| Storage | 210+ GB SSD | 210+ GB NVMe SSD | 210+ GB NVMe SSD |
| OS | Windows 10/11 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
A few reasons behind these numbers:
- The CPU matters more than usual. If the PS5 is CPU-limited at 30 fps, doubling that on PC needs a much faster processor, not just a better graphics card. AMD’s X3D chips, with their large cache, are especially good at this kind of open-world simulation.
- VRAM is the GPU spec to watch. Large open worlds with high-resolution textures fill video memory quickly. 8 GB cards will likely need reduced texture settings; 12 GB or more is the safe target.
- An SSD will almost certainly be required. GTA V Enhanced already requires one, and GTA 6 streams a far bigger, denser world. A hard drive is unlikely to be supported.
Should you upgrade your PC for GTA 6 now?
Probably not yet. With no official requirements and the PC version still months away, any big purchase today is a bet on a guess. It’s also an unusually bad time to buy memory and storage: AI data centres are buying up memory chips, and RAM and SSD prices have climbed steeply through 2026. Here’s how we’d approach each part:
- Storage: start by making room. GTA 6 will need over 200 GB, and clearing space on the SSD you already have costs nothing. New drives are expensive: in October 2026 a 1 TB NVMe SSD costs around $145 and a 2 TB one around $250 or more, far above 2025 prices, and analysts don’t expect relief before 2027. If you do need a new drive, buy only the capacity you need.
- RAM: keep your 16 GB for now. A 32 GB DDR5 kit costs around $450 in the US, two to four times what it cost a year ago, and DRAM prices are forecast to rise another 10–15% this quarter. 16 GB should be enough to run GTA 6 at lower settings, so wait for official requirements before paying shortage prices for 32 GB.
- CPU: if you’re on an AM4 board, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is back as an Anniversary Edition ($349 suggested price since June 2026). It’s still the strongest drop-in upgrade, and it needs no new motherboard and, importantly right now, no new RAM. On AM5, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D ($329) is the cheapest way to get AMD’s 3D V-Cache.
- GPU: wait for official requirements and benchmarks. If you’re buying anyway, prioritise cards with 12 GB of VRAM or more. Our guide to the best graphics cards for a gaming PC build is a good starting point.

GTA 6 PC FAQ
When is the GTA 6 PC release date?
There isn’t an official one. GamesBeat reports a first-quarter 2027 target, citing anonymous sources. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed it.
Are there official GTA 6 PC system requirements?
No. Every spec list online, including ours, is an estimate. Rockstar normally publishes requirements a few weeks before a PC launch.
Can I play GTA 6 on my PC with PS5 Remote Play?
PS5 Remote Play lets you stream the game from your own PS5 to a PC. That’s not a PC version, though: the game still runs on the console.
How much storage will GTA 6 need on PC?
Plan for at least 210 GB on an SSD. That’s the reported size of the PS5 version, and PC versions are rarely smaller.
Will my RTX 3060 run GTA 6?
Probably, at 1080p with medium settings and upscaling. The RTX 3060’s 12 GB of VRAM is an advantage here. Expect to need a stronger card for 1440p at 60 fps.
