Design

This time there’s no camera bump on its back like it was on S22 series, which makes the new model look like a mix of a base S22 with its Ultra version. The back of the phone is flat with just metal rigns around its lenses. The screen is flat, there’s no curves at all.

Samsung offers Galaxy S23 in four colors:

  • Cream
  • Lavender
  • Phantom black
  • Green

Screen

It is a known fact that Samsung are capable of producing amazing displays. No surprise it’s the same story this year. Samsung Galaxy S23 has a Super AMOLED 6.1″ display with an impressive level of brightness – it can hit 1750 nits which makes it comfortable to use even in a daylight. 120Hz make UI interaction smooth and 1080×2340 resolution doesn’t let you notice any pixels.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy S23 is equipped with 50MP main, 10MP telephoto and 12MP ultra-wide cameras. Three cameras on the back of a phone are the same as on previous generation. It is only the front camera that was upgraded – it’s now 12MP instead of 10MP as it was on S22.

Performance

Galaxy S23 rocks Snapdragon-8 Gen 2 “for Galaxy” – a special version of a chip with overclocked CPU and GPU. It is the fastest mobile processor that you can find among all of the Android phones. That gives Galaxy S23 30% performance bump over S22. And this time there’s no Exynos-based phones, Snapdragon only.

It’s worth noticing that the base Galaxy S23 model will get slightly slower storage and RAM, but it’s doubtful that a regular user will notice any difference even performing heavy tasks like gaming.

Features

Galaxy S23 supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare (meaning you could use your phone to charge other devices, but you need to make sure that devices are compatible).

S23 is water resistant (IP68, up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes) and is covered with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both back and front sides (S22 used Gorilla Glass Victus Plus).

Price and thoughts

$799 (for base model, 256GB version costs extra $60) Samsung Galaxy S23 price tag makes a $599 Pixel 7 a strong contender. Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are amazing, Google’s base model is an absolute bang for a buck. However, you have to be ready to cope with a few Pixel’s problems like laggy camera, not wide enough ultra-wide lense and some other minor bugs. Whereas Samsung proved its flagships’ high quality with the last couple of Galaxy generations. A fresh and smart design, great cameras, display and performance make S23 a worthy successor for the Samsung’s Galaxy series.
